Moving to the new web server

To find out what pages are indexed in search engines, you can do query the search engine. Every search engine uses a different method for this:

• Google: type “site:example.com” to get a listing of all pages which one indexed. You can click on “show omitted results” on last page to get them all.
• Yahoo: the same, except you will be redirected to Yahoo’s Website Explorer.
• MSN: Same, except you will be redirected to Bing.

Every search engine will return a list of all indexed pages, along with a number of how much pages are indexed. You will want to go through these and redirect every one to your new website.

Setting OR maintaining your 301 permanent redirects

If your new site is simply moving to a new server, OR you are keeping your domain name, all you will need to do is keep both websites up for few weeks to ensure search engines are aware of the switch. If, however, you are using a new domain, you will need to physically program 301 (permanent) redirects for all pages. We recommend leaving 301 redirects up indefinitely, as few pages take longer to redirect than others.
